Alfred Barber is seen here standing outside the Goat and Boot hotel at the bottom of East Hill, Colchester which he owned and ran during the 1920's. It was in 1928 when Alfred Barber took a change of direction into the building trade and founded A. Barber & Son Builders and joiners, situated in the Town centre of Colchester, behind the High Street at No. 10 William's Walk.

It is here, right in the hub of the town that the office, workshops and yard remain to this day.  The business has been passed down though the family over the years and is now run by Alfred's Grandsons Keith and Terence Lewis who are the sons of Alfred's daughter Vi.  It is here in this photo you can see Alfred leading a very young Keith down the Colchester High Street.
